About Us

The Julian Cuyamaca Fire Explorers are a group of young adults between 9th grade and 21 years old who train to become fire fighters (or paramedics), and perform every task that the actual Department performs except actually fighting fire. Anyone within the age group can join at any time, and only has to contact one of the current explorers, or come to the Post 71 Fire station any Thursday at 6:00 P.M. Even though we are not actually on the front lines of a fire, we do whatever needs done during a fire, such as washing vehicles, cooking and cleaning for the firefighters not on the line, and preparing cots for whoever needs them. The station also houses several ambulances, and any explorer 15 or older who has been part of the organization for six months or longer is able to ride with the medics and help out on weekends (with the OK of parents and the medical crew on duty, and acceptable grades). This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in any branch of the medical service, civilian or military.
